RUSTIC SPIRIT offers new handcrafted Arts and Crafts Movement pottery and Arts and Crafts Period tiles. All of the pottery and tiles are functional, beautiful and handmade. The Arts and Crafts Movement pottery and Arts and Crafts Period tiles were popular in decorating homes in the late 1800s and early 1900s. A reaction to the mass production and frilly Victorian Era home decorating items and architecture the Arts and Crafts Movement promoted simple, hand crafted, well designed and functional art such as handmade pottery and tiles. Designers and architects such as Gustav Stickley, Dard Hunter of the the Roycrofters, Rookwood Pottery, Grueby Pottery and Frank Lloyd Wright developed their own unique style of the Arts and Crafts Period pottery and Arts and Crafts Movement tiles. Owners, architects, designers and builders of Great Camps and lodges in the Adirondacks in upstate New York and in the National Parks during the late 1800s and early 1900s decorated the camps, cabins and lodges with Arts and Crafts Movement pottery and tiles. Using nature's colors of warm muted greens, copper tones, soft golds and tans, the pottery and tiles blended in well with the natural surroundings in the forests and landscapes.
